SPASA has ramped-up its child safety initiative to lobby the Victorian Government to legislate the mandatory inspection of pool and spa barriers in Victoria. “SPASA Victoria is strongly of the view that inspections of pool and spa barriers should be mandatory in Victoria in order to improve safety outcomes,” says CEO, Brendan Watkins.

A recent survey of eighteen City Councils reveals that the vast majority of backyard pools and spas are consistently failing barrier inspections.

VicSwimVictoria’s longest running learn to swim and water safety education program, VICSWIM, has opened enrolments for the 2017 ‘Summer Kidz’ program.

VICSWIM will be held at more than 130 public pools and coastal locations across Victoria during the period 3rd to 20th January 2017.

The Plaza Ballroom was ablaze in all its glory on Saturday night as winners of the SPASA Awards of Excellence programme were announced.

With 430 industry stakeholders in attendance, the Awards Gala is the most anticipated event on the Victorian calendar - it certainly lives up to its hype.

The Victorian Building Authority (VBA) warns that certain jobs around the home are not only best left to the professionals, but legally can only be done by someone who is registered or licensed to do the work.

With plenty of hot weather still to come this summer, inflatable and portable swimming and wading pools seem like a good idea to keep young children cool –  as well as adults. The sad fact is they also increase the risk of drowning if safety precautions aren’t taken
and building regulations not complied with.

The Victorian Building Authority (VBA) believes consumers need to be aware that all spas and swimming pools that hold more than 30 cm of water must be surrounded by a compliant safety barrier when they are set up. This includes inflatable, portable and wading pools, which, like in-ground and other permanent pools and spas, can pose dangers to young children without the proper safety barriers in place.
